The Autism Scholarship Program allows the Ohio Department of Education to pay a scholarship to the parents of a qualified child with autism. Through the scholarship, parents have a choice of sending their child to a special education program or therapy provider, other than the one operated by their child's school district, to receive the services outlined in the child's individualized education program (IEP).
To be eligible, the child must have a current multifactored evaluation (MFE) which states that the child is eligible for services under the category of autism under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The child must also have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) that is finalized and all parties, including the parent, must be in agreement with the IEP.
