CLINICAL
SERVICES
The physical therapist (PT) provides services to children with a wide variety of orthopaedic and neurological problems, including Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Torticollis, Developmental Delays, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, and Seizure Disorders. The focus of physical therapy is the enhancement of strength and mobility to allow for greater independence. Physical therapists work on controlling muscle tone, enhancing strength & flexibility, and improving gait & mobility. They also use specialty techniques, such as Facilatory/inhibitory taping, Serial Casting, Threshold Electrical Stimulation (TES), and Myofascial Release (MFR).
The occupational therapist (OT) addresses the specific issues related to a child's ability to interact with his/her environment. That interaction may be an issue for children with such problems as Pervasive Developmental Disability (PDD)/Autism, learning and attention disorders, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and behavior & attachment disorders. Our therapists are well known for their expertise in Sensory Integration (SI) therapy. SI therapy involves play-based activity that assists children in the performance of daily tasks by organizing sensory information from their bodies and the environment. Concorde OT's also address specific skill development areas including handwriting, independent self care, eye-hand coordination, and perceptual skills.
Our Speech Therapy (ST) staff offers a wide variety of services for children with a broad spectrum of speech & language issues. Many of our children experience fluency disorders, receptive & expressive language difficulties, dyspraxia & oral motor issues, articulation disorders, feeding problems and auditory processing challenges. Concorde Speech Therapists employ approaches that are highly integrated with those of both Physical and Occupational Therapy. Special expertise is available in oral motor and feeding therapies. In addition, computer enhanced programs, such as Fast ForWord and Earobics, allow us to more effectively address auditory processing issues.
